CZECH out Robert's results!!!

Robert competed with Team GB at the 50th Skiinterkriterium International Children's ski race on 27th and 28th January 2012 creating British ski racing history in the Czech Republic with an awesome overall win on Run 1 of the International Slalom!!! In the International Slalom race held on the Zaklety - Zahori piste, over 60 competitors took part in the U15 age category comprising of the best Germans, Slovenians, Czechs and 17 other Nations.Robert running with drawn Bib 3 stormed down the course which could be excitingly viewed all over the world via special live timing and video link and went straight to the number one spot where he stayed for the remainder of the race! Robert's lead in the 1st run of this race was an incredible achievement for a British child and he turned heads up and down the mountain. He won the first race 0.84 seconds ahead of 2nd placed Slovenian racer Kristof Fabjan and Ferdinand Dorsch from Germany. This is a first for a British racer to be leading a race in the Czech Republic even more so unique when you live in Potters Bar which isn't known for it's Mountain ranges!Unfortunately, nerves surprisingly got the better of Robert in the 2nd Run and he crashed out after hooking a gate with his arm.Sean Langmuir, the Team GBR Head coach was full of praise for Robert saying, " There's no shame in that!, He gave it everything till the very end. It's a great learning experience. he's done very well and I'm encouraged by the way he has upped his level this week!"In the Giant Slalom race the folllowing day which was sponsored by Milka, Robert scored a PB placing a very repectable 8th Place overall! He even got to keep the Bib as a souvenir and brought home some delicous bars of Milka chocolate!ROBERT LOVES THE ATOMIC SKI EQUIPMENT!!The whole event was a great week for Team GB and it was absolutely fantastic for parents , friends and supporters back home to have the amazing technology of a video link up to share in the Live Racing! For such a small little Czech Republic ski resort they are way ahead in technology.

Robert flew out to the Czech republic last sunday after meeting up at the airport at silly hour 0'clock in the morning! Here he is, pushing his luggage wearing his new 2012 season Trespass sponsored GB ski Jacket that thankfully arrived in the post just in time for the first International ski race! On Tuesday 24th January,the GB team took part in the Czech Republic National Ski Race Slalom Championships. This race is a qualifying race for the Czech children's selection into the International races on the 28th & 29th January. The 2012 Ski Interkriterium.Robert had a fantastic race day and placed 4th Overall!!Today, 25th January, the Czech Republic National Giant Slalom race took place. After googling on the internet, trying to find more information about the 'Ricky' ski area we were really pleased to find that the races had great technology and have been able to follow them via VOLA Live timings!! The resort also has very good CCTV cameras!! Robert and Fraser were spotted today at the bottom of the race piste!.... Amazing!!Robert had a cracking 1st run time placing him in 6th position overall but unfortunately DNF'd on his 2nd run. He hit a gate with his arm which made him leave go of one of his ski poles which twirled 5 metres in the air, finally landing on the ground at coaches corner!! (Sounds like winter javelin!!)Thankfully, It didn't hit anyone and He's ok and has been reunited with his ski pole! All the team are in good spirits after some excellent individual results and all are now looking forward to a free skiing day tomorrow and the Opening ceremony of the Ski Interkriterium, ready for the International championships. This week sees Robert preparing his skis and luggage ready for the flight out to Prague at the weekend to compete at the Ski- Interkriterium races in Ricky, Czech Republic. The team plan to also compete in the Czech National qualifying competition as well as the main event as this gives them a chance to race on the competition slope before the main event. Robert will also be lucky enough to experience a bit of Czech culture with a walking guided tour of Prague on their arrival.It's a beautiful place, they're all very lucky!Baggage is a major headache when travelling by air with ski race equipment but over the years we have kind of got it down to a fine art....hopefully!! Not easy with 23kg luggage allowance when your ski boots alone weigh 10kg before you pack everything else. With an additional two ski bags and origami style clothes packing Robert will be ready to give the races his best shot. He just hopes and prays that his new 2012 season GB Trespass jackets arrive in time!!

Due to Robert's achievements at the BARSC races, Robert has been chosen to represent Great Britain at the 51st "Topolino" ski race championships which this year is being held in Folgaria, Italy.The Topolino race is known as the top world ski racing event on the children's ski racing calendar. "Children's winter olympics".Robert is delighted to have been selected for Topolino and is very much looking forward to the experience of competing against other children his age from all over the world.

ROBERT WINS THE BARSC OVERALL!!!!!!

BARSC Championships in Champoluc, Italy.

Robert has had an awesome start to the 2011/12 Winter Ski race season using ATOMIC Skis and Boots, winning the BARSC Championships overall in Champoluc, Italy.

On the 20th December the Slalom championship was held on the Del Bosco piste. Robert won both runs of slalom which were two different courses and was presented with the Gold medal for winning CH2 overall.

On the 21st December the Giant Slalom championship was held also on the Del Bosco piste. Robert added another overall Gold medal win to his name by winning the Giant Slalom championship also overall in CH2.

The Super Giant Slalom was unfortunately cancelled due to lack of snow and the replacement second Giant Slalom race also was cancelled the following day due to high winds preventing the lifts opening.

Robert couldn't wait to get back out on snow to train in Alpbach, Austria with Telford ski race club in preparation for the British Alpine Race Ski Clubs (BARSC) Championships held in Champoluc, Italy. Both Robert and brother Daniel flew out to Salzburg missing the last week of the school term after cramming all of their mock exams into one exhausting week. Many Thanks to Peter Baker and the staff of Mount Grace School for their continued support.

GB Fitness Testing Weekend - Robert

This weekend, Robert attended a GB Children's fitness testing weekend held in Kent. The weather was unbelievably hot for this time of year... especially for running but all went well and all worked very hard!
The weekend was extra special as the GB team were gathering from all over the UK and Europe to meet newly appointed Children's Head Ski Coach, Sean Langmuir who presented an encouraging power point to the parents. Also, helping with the coaching and testing was Ben Rewt and Superstars hero... Alain Baxter!
A great positive vibe spread around the team during the whole weekend.....exciting times lay ahead for the GB Children's team.... !

Daniel & Robert were delighted to represent the Hertfordshire Talented Athlete Programme along with Nick Brooking the director recently as guests at a health event run by Broxbourne Housing association at the Paradise Wildlife Park.
Broxbourne Housing Association were very generous to give the HTAP scheme some funding last year which helps to provide the support services that selected athletes on the programme receive.
Attending and taking part in events like this as representatives of HTAP are very special and a fantastic way to address the audiences enlightening them about their chosen sport of Alpine ski racing and most importantly saying a public THANK YOU to the companies generous support!

ROBERT wins a place to train with Team Evolution!

Due to Robert winning the Children 2 age category at the recent ERSA regional race held at the Hemel Snowcentre. Robert was awarded a training slot on the Team Evolution Indoor race camp which was held at the Hemel Snow Centre on the above dates run by Paul Telling.

As the camp had been scheduled around Private school term dates...! Robert was very pleased indeed, that permission was granted from his School teachers, for him to take part in the opportunity.

Robert enjoyed the camp very much with the mix of ski drills, ski exercises and fitness and enjoyed the experience of working with Ed Drake again who is the British Male number 1 Olympic ski racer.

On the last day of the camp, a dual slalom race was set up for all racers on the camp and ski coaches.
Out of everyone taking part, Robert was extremely pleased to win the dual slalom overall and was presented with a fantastic pair of Level ski racing gloves!! :-D

DISASTER... :-( Daniel & Robert miss out on competing in Scotland due to Mums Injury!

Daniel & Robert unfortunately missed out on competing in the British Grand prix indoor series races 3 & 4 at Braehead, Glasgow due to their Mum having to have surgery to reattach tendons and ligaments to a finger due to a serious injury sustained whilst she was supposed to be having a fun day out experiencing white water rafting at the fabulous Olympic white water rafting centre in Lee valley , Hertfordshire. :'(

This was a huge disappointment for the Boys as there were only 5 races in the series. However, they were both very understanding of the situation...under the circumstances and were both extremely supportive of their Mum.

Snowsport England BASS Indoor Snow Slalom Races.

Friday the 27th May 2011 saw a pick up from School as soon as Daniel had completed a GCSE examination during the morning. We quickly headed off in the direction of the Euro Tunnel to catch a train which would be the start of our journey to Europes largest Indoor Snow centre...SnowWorld in Landgraaf, Holland in order to take part in the first ever Snow sport England BASS Indoor Snow Slalom races. We had decided to camp in Holland over the weekend of racing and so arrived at our grass pitch at around 9.00pm! We still just about had enough light to construct our home for the three nights. Much hilarity happened that night with the arrival of friends pitched beside us and a dutch motorhome opposite which resembled an ice cream van belonging to a lookalike Rolph Harris!! Eventually, all was quite and everyone settled down to the first night under canvas!

Daniel was first up on Saturday morning, raring to go at 5.30am clicking the ignition on the gas ring ready to commence the cooking of the bacon butties. There's something about a cup of tea and a bacon buttie sat in the middle of a field? One by one we all shuffled to the shower block with the special key which allowed a shower and entrance and exit from the campsite. I even slept with this key under my pillow!! Did not want to lose it! At 6.45am on the nail. We were greeted by Jon the ski coach who had arrived with his family during the night in his very posh Motorhome.They were to be pitched behind us! It was at this point that we realised our tent had been erected inside out!! How it stayed up all night ,I'll never know!! We transferred 45 Slalom gates into our car and set off for SnowWorld. Hemel Ski club had a lane booked for 2 training sessions during the day. TBC

The selections for the Great Britain Children's Ski race team were posted late this evening and Robert has been re selected for the 3rd year.

This weekend saw Daniel & Robert competing in the popular 'Graham Beck' Race series. This year the series has 5 races and races 1 & 2 were staged at Snowzone, Milton Keynes.
In Race 1 Robert won the Ch2 age group and Daniel placed 2nd in JN1.

The following day in Race 2 Robert posted the the only sub 13 sec time in run 1. A small error of judgement towards the end of his otherwise blistering 2nd run was costly and this unfortunately left him as DNF. Meanwhile, Daniel was having the best race day to date with wins on both runs to take the 1st place in JN1. The friendly competition and banter that goes with it in this new age group is extremely pleasing to witness! Roll on races 3 & 4.

Big congratulations to Daniel as he received an e-mail this evening informing him of his selection to the England Alpine Team 2011/12.

This is a huge honour and much deserved reward for Daniel, that his latest Alpine ski racing achievements over the 2010/2011 winter season have been recognised and acknowledged by his Team selection, especially as he had limited access to Alpine ski training due to school internal and GCSE examinations!

Robert is the CH2 British Indoor ski racing champion!!

This weekend opened the 2011 summer race calendar and what a high to begin on! Robert won both the Anglo-welsh championships and the 2011 British Indoor ski racing championships which were held at the Chill Factore indoor ski centre in Manchester. At the Anglo-welsh Championships, Robert comfortably won his age group finishing in an impressive 5th Place overall, his winning time -2.32 seconds faster than his nearest competitor would have been good enough to take the JN1 title as well!!

Daniel venturing out in a new age category this season posted 2nd place JN1 at the Anglo- welsh and 3rd place Jn1 at the British Indoor Championships!

Brothers Daniel & Robert showed their Ski Racing "Poth-ential" this weekend competing in the final race 9 of the British Indoor Grand Prix series and the 2010British Indoor Championships the following day at Castleford Xscape indoor Snow Centre.

This season both Boys have been competing head to head in the same U15 age category (Ch2) with Robert just recently celebrating his 13th Birthday in his first year of the older age group.

Robert,on tremendous form against the older racers kept his nerve and skied to an impressive overall 25.00 secs winning the Gold with older brother Daniel just slotting in behind with 25.28 secs securing the silver!

Congratulations to 12 year old Robert Poth from Hemel Ski Race Club as he was announced Runner Up for the "Maureen Flint Rising Star" Award at the recent 2010 DACORUM SPORTS AWARDS.

Robert, due to his phenomenal ski racing achievements throughout the 2010 winter season racing Nationally and Internationally had been shortlisted to one of three athletes nominated in this overwhelming category.

The winner was announced on the night, at a presentation ceremony at Sportspace, Berkhamstead which he attended with his Mum, Dad, Brother Daniel and his very proud Grandma! This was such a surprise for Robert and good news for snow sports that ski racing is acknowledged.

Daniel won Race 5, Robert won Race 6.

Today we took part in Race 5 of the Beck indoor race series at Hemel Snowcentre. Our skis had been expertly prepared the night before by our trusty technician using our new VOLA wax!!......... and what a wax it is!

Both of us are in the Ch2 age group together this year with Robert in the younger year of Ch2 but on a keen mission to keep at the top of his year group and the challenge of the friendly sibling rivalry!! Daniel was bib 6 and Robert was bib 8.

After a competitive run 1 both Daniel & Robert incredibly posted identical times of 10.46 and this left them in Joint 2nd place.

A change of course for run 2 saw Daniel slam down a gutsy performance and he recorded the fastest time for Ch2 (11.86)which nudged him to 1st place with 22.32 overall.

Robert raced to a 12.26 which overall gave him 22.72, a creditable 2nd place in Ch2 and first place in his year group!

Tomorrow is Race 6......

Sunday 4th July saw us back bright and early to the Hemel SnowCentre for Race 6 of the Grand Prix indoor series. The top 15 racers had been drawn and Daniel was bib 3 and Robert bib 9.There were 46 racers in this age group.

After run 1 Daniel posted the fastest time in Ch2 of 11.03 with Robert close behind in 2nd place on 11.09.

A new course was set for Run 2 and after a long break the battle commenced for the winner of Ch2 and the most precious points for overall!
The top three male Ch2 racers put on a fantastic show of competitive racing with the 3rd placed racer from run 1 posting 11.76 giving an overall time of 22.89.
Next out of the gate was Robert with strong determination to beat the rest of the field and in particular, his older brother from the day before!
Robert blitzed the course with an incredible time of 11.71 giving him an overall 22.80!! would this be enough?
All eyes were on Daniel now as he powered out of the start gate. He too had a cracking run of 11.85 which gave him an overall time of 22.88. This wasn't enough to stay in the top position though and Daniel was knudged to 2nd place in Ch2 with Robert victoriously taking the 1st place Ch2 position. A fantastic result for his first year in Ch2!

Sadly...Just after the race in a very short space of time. The happiness and excitement of the days racing went from a high point to an extremely devastating low point as we received terrible news that Grandad Poth, the Boys number 1 fan had just passed away....

The Boys excused themselves from the prize giving ceremony and we returned home.

R.I.P Grandad Poth. Gone... but certainly not forgotten.

Robert travelled out to Abetone,Italy on the 24th March with the Great Britain Children's ski race team to compete at his second selected International ski race representing Great Britain. Thankfully, the British airways strike did not affect the travel outwards from Heathrow.

Robert was the only u12 male British ski racer at this event which is known as the Children's winter olympics!

Robert achieved his personal target of a top 20 finish in each discipline which he accomplished with an outstanding 18th overall position in Slalom and 17th overall in Giant Slalom.

As Robert's return flight home was disrupted due to the British airways strike it was necessary to make alternative last minute arrangements!! We were very grateful to Gar Trayner the GB Children's head coach as he drove a mini bus from Abetone to Moutiers in order for racers to reach the Three Valleys area of France. Robert's Mum then drove from England with Daniel on the 27th March through the night in order to meet Robert from his epic 8 hour minibus journey!! Thankfully.. Mum and Daniel arrived first.

Robert Poth continues to set the scoreboards alight this winter season from his outstanding Silver medal podium position at the International Childrens ski race in Andorra recently with the GB Children's ski race team by taking a phenomenal clean sweep across all 3 disciplines, Slalom, Giant Slalom and the Super Giant Slalom in the Children 1 age category at the English Alpine Championships held last week in Bormio.
Robert, apparantly, is the only child to have ever achieved this success and it is all the more incredible as he received very little training before the event due to the high costs involved and only arrived in the resort two days before the 1st race!! Many thanks to Chantelle Goddard-Jones his coach at Team Slalom Plus for her support and encouragement.

Today was the 2nd day of Children races and we had the Giant Slalom race up on the Stella race piste.

Robert had another fantastic day of ski racing winning both runs of the CH1 Giant Slalom!!!

Just the Super G left now on friday. A day off tomorrow but probably will be spent looking for powder as the snow has been falling here in Bormio since the afternoon!!

Today was the first Children's race at the English Alpine Ski race championships in Bormio, Italy.
The Slalom race was held on the Stella Alpina piste. The championship race consisted of two different runs on two different courses.
Robert nailed both runs coming 1st placed CH1 on both runs and Won the CH1 boys race overall by over 3 seconds!!

Tomorrow will be the Children's Giant Slalom race.

ANDORRA - Slalom & Combi and an Exceptional Achievement Award from School!!

Today, Daniel & Robert were competing in two separate events. The CH2 racers competed in Slalom which had two separate courses which had to be both completed for a result and the CH1 racers competed in a Combi. The Combi is a test of the racers free(all mountain) skiing ability and slalom skis are recommended. They usually consist of rollers,jumps,banked turns,Big turns and smaller turns usually set with stubby gates.

Daniel unfortunately abandoned the course in the CH2 Slalom run 1 but Robert, competing in the CH1 Combi kept up his outstanding form from the silver medal the day before in the Giant Slalom and raced to another top 10 position in his age category finishing the combi in 6th place just missing another medal by a whisker!

This day concludes a most fantastic set of outstanding results this week for Daniel & Robert in Andorra at their first International Ski race representing Great Britain on the Children's Ski race team. Tonight is the closing ceremony.

The GB team came 5th Position overall out of 26 countries which took part in the Trofeu Borrufa 2010.

An Evening of Celebration at the Gala Presentation took place at Mount Grace School this evening. Daniel & Robert had both been nominated for an award but we had no idea what it was for. As Both Daniel & Robert were away In Andorra competing for Great Britain, Mum and Dad went along to the evening. Wow!!!What a fabulous evening it was too. Daniel & Robert were both awarded Exceptional Achievement awards for their ski sporting achievements. After being talked about on stage for more than 10 minutes. This certainly was a very special proud moment for the Boys parents and it is a pity that they couldn't be present too to receive their fantastic awards. Mum collected the trophies on their behalf and thankfully negotiated the stage steps brilliantly to rapturous applause. WELL DONE DANIEL & ROBERT!!!!

After a super 7th place in yesterdays Super G for Robert, today he has pulled a silver medal out of the bag in the CH1 Giant Slalom competing in a field of 45 racers to 2nd place with just 0.20 behind the winner!!

Daniel skied to 28th place overall in CH2 which had 57 racers competing over 2 separate courses on the Portella del Mig Piste.

Tomorrow is the Slalom and Combi event.

Due to the Boys mobile phones not working for some reason in Andorra there has been no contact with home since landing at Barcelona airport on Monday lunchtime! Thank you Virgin media... What a super service... NOT! Think we will have to think seriously about another server on their return as it is crucial to have contact and a reliable service at moments like this!! If anyone reading this blog can offer any advice, we would be most grateful! As it happens...No news was good news..!

Today was the Super G race. Robert raced in the CH1 category which had 43 racers competing on a 29 gate course. Robert's result was 7th Place with a time of 1:00:05 just a mere 28 hundreths of 5th place!!

Daniel raced in the CH2 category which had a strong field of 54 racers competing on a different course to the CH1 racers which had 35 gates. Daniel's result was 22nd Place with a time of 1:12:02. A great result considering he spent 3 weeks over christmas and New year on crutches!

Tomorrow is the Giant Slalom race.

Andorra here we come!!

Today we're both flying out to Andorra for a week of racing with the GB Children's ski race team at the 48th Trofeu Borrufa 2010. It's also Daniel's birthday today so what a coincidence.... He gets to celebrate his birthday like Robert did on his last birthday.. in the company of British Airways and the GB Ski squad!! Packing was rather a nightmare for this trip as BA decided recently to change the baggage allowance. Both Boys needed to pack skis for each discipline. Slalom, Giant Slalom and the fab Super G!!! Their boots alone are around 8-9kg a pair and this is all supposed to come under 23kg? The Boys are looking forward to their first International ski races representing Great Britain and are hoping to do their best and have a great time!

Big Thanks to Shokk Gym, Potters Bar, Mount Grace School, Bartletts, Snow & Rock and to TEAM POTH supporters who have sent kind wishes to the Boys.

Robert takes 3rd place in Austrian GS race!

With great THANKS to Andreas Kristan our stay in Petzen for ski training and racing was very worthwhile!

We travelled over to another resort called Koralpe, near Wolfsberg for the 2009Koralpencup Giant Slalom race. After travelling up the extremely steep gradient mountain road in our car, sometimes in 1st gear!!! we eventually reached the carpark! The race piste was equally as steep but even more challenging with the hard packed ice!

There were at least 160 competitors taking part which ranged from mini-mini minis!! (in catsuits!! SHOCK HORROR) LOL!! to Masters.

There was just one run to count in this race and the very technical course unfortunately caught a lot of racers out either on the bend in the middle or towards the finish.

28th December 2009 - Austrian Regional Championships Slalom Race at Turracher Hohe.

Despite the unfortunate news on Christmas Day informing us that the 2009 BARSC ski races had been cancelled it didn't stop Slalom Plus Ski team training or racing! We travelled to neighbouring slopes to train around Petzen and on the 28th December we took part in a Slalom ski race in Turracher Hohe which was the Karnten regional championships. Over 150 Austrian/ Slovenian competitors took part on a steep, icey slope.It was good to see other British racers taking part too, as Ambition ski team also came to Petzen.

Robert finished 4th place overall after the 2 runs on 2 different courses which was a fantastic performance against some of the best young ski racers in the Karnten region.

Christmas Day 2009

This is an excerpt from our Mum's Diary!

Father Christmas visited around 6am ish, I think . Daniel sounded like he woke up first,(another uncomfortable night for him) and i think i heard a chocolate orange drop off his bed! Lovely to hear the whispering and excitement of Christmas morning especially when.. "He's been!!!!". Big footsteps into our room followed by Daniel dragging a leg along! Meanwhile, down below us, Vicky had transformed the G-J place into a Pullin Grotto. Thanks for yelling Merry Christmas around 3am.After opening pressies and eating a bit of breakfast the most important part of the day started to be prepared. THE TURKEY!!
I went down and supervised an extremely excited Vixster, jess got set peeling potatoes and her fingers....and a general christmas buzz went around the whole apartments. Nearly forgot to say, even Bruno visited to wish us all a Happy Christmas!! Good heavens...who is the CPO? good job he didn't go next door! LoL. Karen and Nick set a fabulous Orienteering exercise around the area. Brilliant apart from the torrential rain lashing down which also unfortunately washed all the snow away too.

Daniel was in charge of timing and the clues which became soggier as the time passed. (laminate needed for next year). The cryptic clues sent the teams all over the grounds, In the forest, down the lane and back and then down again!!! The three formidable girls did a sterling job followed by the Boys and the adults just needed to work as a team! LoL. Everyone was drenched but it was fun. It was after the orienteering that we learnt that the 2009 BARSC had been cancelled.

The waft of cooking smells from both floors was a delight. All looking forward to peaceful sit down feasts within our own walls. My last minute napkin creations were masterpieces from Robyn. How could she have transformed 4 Kitchen roll sections so beautifully?. We had just pulled our crackers and were just about to take the first mouthful of christmas dinner when we heard shreaks of ...HELP... coming from outside. A scramble to the balcony saw Vixster striding forcefully towards Chantelle with an enormous branch looking like a Zulu warrier? What on earth could have gone wrong now... We also noted 3 horses sniffing around our cars.... This can't be right... oh NO. WHO LET THE DOGS.. I MEAN HORSES OUT!! OO OO oo oo!! The immediate guffaw of laughter soon turned, we attempted to continue to eat but realised we had an emergency on our hands so we donned the Alpine raincoats and went to help lasso the escaped horses.. What a nightMARE!!!. Chantelle took a spectacular slide on her knees right into manure..UGH.. white sallopettes not a good idea for rodeo. After about 50 minutes of what seemed like a 'Big Brother House' task... I thought we ought to phone the owner. He seemed to take a long time arriving but eventually did with a bucket of feed and that seemed to do the trick and all the escapees were enticed back into the field. PHEW!! We were all invited for a kleine schnaps as a sign of gratitude!!! Some loving that experience more than others. ha ha! The kids were given a soft drink in the barn next to the secret family.... Errr... that's another story! Never thought Christmas day would finish up with running around in the rain twice!! Hope the owner bought our story that... 'We just looked out and noticed the horses were out of the field!!!... BTW... Did anyone find the clue that was on the otherside of the field gate?

BARSC in Petzen 2009

We arrived on the 18th December in a very snowy Petzen!! We managed to escape the English snow which was creating chaos back home. It snowed all night and the following morning in -20 degrees we went to ski and have fun with Dad. The powder was wicked.

On the sunday whilst slalom training, Daniel took a nasty fall on his last run which resulted in him being wagoned off the slope and driven for 97 minutes to Klagenfurt hospital in an ambulance. Mum frantically followed the ambulance on the unknown,dark,icey back route!! Dad accompanied the patient. (Thanks to her Barry Manilow CD which she is only allowed to listen to on her own...her nerves were not as shattered as they could have been!!) The Hospital was amazing.. the ambulance drove straight into the reception, no messing. By the short time it took to park the car and incidentally not have to buy a parking ticket, Daniel was ready to be x - rayed.Good news... The catsuit wasn't cut off... Bad news, Left leg immobolised and given a pair of Krankenhaus poles which are nowhere near as cool as his Komperdell pair!

2010 World Schools' Ski Championships selection for Brothers!!!

Daniel (age13)& Robert (age12) have both been selected by ESSKIA to represent England in a team of five racers at the 2010 World Schools' Ski Championships in Folgaria, Italy in March 2010. Robert will be the youngest member of the team and both boys will compete in slalom and giant slalom races organised by the International School Sport Federation.

Although the boys will be representing their country and will no doubt gain a great deal of experience from this event, the finances fall to the parents of the individuals concerned.

Daniel has been recently informed that his allocated race of Abetone in March 2010 has been changed to Andorra in January 2010. The Andorra Children's International race also has a Super G race as well as Slalom and Giant Slalom so he is looking forward to this opportunity of competing in his favourite discipline in Andorra.

Robert had already been selected to compete in Andorra so this means that both brothers will now be representing Britain at the same time!

European Indoor Ski Racing Championships 2009

This last weekend saw us competing in the European Indoor ski racing championships at the Chill Factore indoor snow centre in Manchester.European racers had travelled from Iceland, Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England!(The race weekend happened to coincide with a visit to our Grandma up t' North again ....! She was really pleased to see us again as we saw her last weekend too when we travelled to Rossendale for the ESSKIA schools National ski racing finals with our school ski team!

Saturday was a qualifying race for bib start order in the Championship race the following day.Daniel skied 2 excellent runs placing him in 1st place in CH2. Robert also won his age group which placed him 1st in CH1. Another Dave Ryding fund raising dual slalom event was scheduled for the afternoon so Daniel & Robert teamed up with two other racers to make a great team. A fun time was had by all including the spectators and hopefully these little events are helping One of our TOP GB skiers to get to the 2010 winter olympics! After the prize giving, Daniel learnt that he had been drawn Bib no 1 for the following day. Don't think he stopped smiling all evening!!

Sunday brought another early start around the M60.The racing competition in CH2 Boys was amazing, the times were so close and Daniel skied to 2nd Place. Robert kept up his consistancy in the CH1 age group and took the title of 2009 European CH1 Indoor Ski racing champion!!

Mount Grace School entered the School Ski Race Team into the English Schools Ski Association races again for the 2nd year. Our regional qualifier was at Gosling Ski Slope so in true Mount Grace style we arrived early at the slope to set up the Gazebo and prepare for the days event. We even beat the Ski Bartlett shop which arrived just after us around 7.10am!!
The Racing commenced around 11.00am after practice, course inspections and meetings etc.
Our School is very grateful to Gosling Ski Centre for kindly providing two of our team with Skis, boots and poles.
Mount Grace were competing in the U16 age group and had a very successful day winning the age group by over 3 seconds. Mr Textbook supported the Boys very well at the top of the slope helping to slap the gunk on the skis whilst Mrs P gate judged and the other parents viewed the race biting their nails, recording the scores on the doors.
A great day was had by all and the weather was the biggest surprise by turning out to be rather warm and sunny!
On leaving the slope after the race we had a good chat with Bartletts mobile Ski Shop. Terry and Sally were both treated to a slice of Home made lemon drizzle cake. It is official... Terry is very impressed with Robert & Daniel's cake making abilities!!
A cake will be delivered to the shop on our next visit.

Mount Grace is through to the National Finals to be held in Rossendale in October. We can't wait for the journey up t'North in the School Mini Bus!! Just hope Sir has a new repertoire of songs to sing as he drives along. How come most welsh people sing so well?

Unfortunately, due to returning home a day later than expected from the GB Ski Camp. Our plans to travel to Manchester Chill Factore on the friday night for races 7&8 of the Indoor grand prix series went a bit pear shaped!
We landed at London City Airport on Saturday 8th August( Robert's Birthday) at
7.15am and Mum & Dad were there to meet us.
Our mission was to reach Manchester and hopefully just arrive before the 1st run course was pulled. We made the journey in 3hrs 15mins!!(but won't say who was driving!!) and arrived at 11.15 to be told that the 2nd course had just been set! Unfortunately we missed race 7.
We had fun taking part in the dual slalom in the afternoon then went to stay at our Grandma's house where we had a big party to celebrate as it was Robert's Birthday!!

After a good nights sleep we were back at Chill Factore bright and early ready for Race 8. After an ORBANA healthy energy drink and a sausage bap for breakfast, Daniel was lying in 2nd place in CH2 after Run 1. Daniel's strong second run catapulted him into 1st place and 10th position overall making a double whammy for the Poth Brothers as Robert won the CH1 age category also.

We had a great time on the GB Children's Summer Ski Race Camp. We trained from 8.00am - 12.30pm every day and the snow on the glacier was excellent. We only lost one day due to serious bad weather when everyone had to get off the mountain as quick as possible.
Saas fee is a great place with fantastic views and lots of sports facilities. The coaching was excellent and we have gained alot from this camp and can't wait to go back.
Thanks to British Airways having a faulty plane for our return flight, we all spent the last night in a posh hotel in Geneva which was a perfect end to the camp and returned home a day later than expected.

Here we are at 4.45am just about to check our luggage in. We're off to Switzerland with the GB Children's ski race team on the summer training camp.We're really looking forward to getting out on the snow and working with the squad. We want to thank Mum & Dad, Grandma, Nagyi & Tata and all our friends who have sent us messages of support!

British Indoor Grand Prix Series.

This weekend we were competing at the Hemel Snow Centre in Races 5 & 6 of the British Indoor grand prix series. We had early morning starts on both days as the Race office opened at 7am. This Ski Race series is organised by Graham & Cathy Beck from the Lions Ski Club.
This weekend was the first opportunity since the Centre opened in May for us to actually be allowed to compete on our home slope as a recent race held at Hemel disallowed us to take part saying that our seedpoints were too low so we were really excited and intrigued what it was going to be like to compete in a race on the slope where we train. It was GREAT!!!

Robert had a great double whammy of a weekend with 1st place in the CH1 age category on both days.

Daniel skied to 3rd Place in CH2 in Race 5.

We thankfully didn't get too wet at the Wycombe Club National last Saturday but we were competing at the Welwyn slope again and rain is always welcome there when racing, as the slope is so dry! A great course was set starting off on the mogul section and it actually caught both of us out as we were going too fast by the time we got to the first ridge on our 1st run. Rocket nailed run 2 and 3 keeping up his consistancy in his Children 1 age group and claimed podium success with the Gold medal.
We introduced some friends to the "Orbana" drink and pleased to say, most of them also experienced success in the race!! Special guest Ed Drake came along to award the winners at the prize ceremony. It was Great to chat to Ed and his Mum after the race and he took a bottle of Orbana to try out too!!

We're back home now from France after competing in the Scottish Alpine Championships in Courchevel and the British Children's National Ski Racing Championships in Meribel.At the Scottish Champs Slalom Race 1, Daniel came CH1 3rd Place (7th overall)and Robert CH1 6th Place (13th overall) In Slalom Race 2 Daniel unfortunately Abandoned but Robert made the top 20 with a 7th Place in CH1.
As we were under the impression that both runs were to count for the championship we had no idea that Daniel had missed being presented with his CH1 3rd place medal until Big Nige informed us later in the Evening in a phone call!!We all felt sick when we heard the news.What a shame to have missed that moment!!
Thanks to BigNige for collecting his Bronze medal and prize... A lovely new organic pair of ski socks.They're so soft and YES Daniel they still have to be washed regularly after use!! We went straight to the Race office the following morning before the Giant Slalom Race to apologise for our misunderstanding at not being there!
The following day in Race 1 Giant Slalom Daniel unfortunately Abandoned and Robert was 6th CH1. In Race 2 Giant Slalom, Daniel was 10th CH1 and Robert had a better day coming 8th CH1 and 1st in his year of Birth.

The following day our alarm clock rang at 5.15am and we went straight up to Meribel for an early Super G start at the British Children's National Ski Racing Championships. The week before the Juniors and Seniors Championships had seen some spectactular racing and the announcement from the Best British Ski Racer to date "The Highlander" Alain Baxter, that he was retiring from Ski Racing.

Daniel & Robert were so looking forward to the Super G and although wishing they both had Super G skis to really let rip as they only have GS skis, Both thundered down the course! Daniel came 3rd CH1 and Robert had an awesome run coming 10th CH1 and 1st in his year of birth.

A tight programme had the Boys Giant Slalom Races scheduled for the following day. Daniel said he felt on good form and was determined to do well.

There is tough healthy competition in the Boys CH1 age group and always a question of how much time out on snow can everybody manage to do in preparation for snow racing championships.
In the Giant Slalom Race 1 & 2 Daniel kept up his consistancy with a fantastic brace of results which put him on the podium again in 3rd place CH1 and a creditable 11th Place overall.

Thursday brought a much needed day off for the Boys and Friday was the last day of the Championships with both Girls and Boys Slalom Championships. The Course was set on the Meribel Stade which was nice for the spectators to be able to watch the action rather than nervously look at the electronic board for scores on the doors! I don't know what's worse? I think the racers also prefer this challenging hill too.

The first Run was on a very icy course which softened as the morning progressed. Daniel had been allocated Bib 13 for the Slalom Race but unfortunately this Bib was not available at the Team captains meeting nor was it available at the Start? He was issued with Bib 160 instead.

We are curious.... was this because the Great Alain Baxter kept it as a souvenir from his last "fling" in a kilt down the slalom run the week before?
Anyway, Daniel skied to 4th CH1 overall in the Slalom just missing the podium.

At the Final prize giving Daniel was very surprised when his name was called out for the Children 1 3rd Place overall Combined Champion and was really pleased to be on the podium again with Max,who incredibly, competed the whole week with his hand in plaster and Laurie.

Well Done to everybody that was involved with the racing. Daniel & Robert Thank very much Chantelle their coach and Suzy and Vickie.It really was a fantastic week!

We're out in France Ski Racing!

Last weekend we took part in the Scottish Ski Race Championships in Courchevel and Daniel picked up a 3rd place in the Children 1 Slalom.

This week we are at the British Children's National Ski Race Championships in Meribel.Yesterday we had the Super G race and Daniel skied an awesome run placing him on the podium collecting the 3rd place CH1 medal.Fantastic!!!!

Today was the Giant Slalom race and Daniel skied his socks off again and picked up another 3rd place CH1 medal!!! Very Pleased.
Tomorrow we have a rest then the Slalom race is on Friday.
